A few days ago the owlet sweater made for baby nom was entered in the Delaware County Fair. The judging was yesterday and the sweater took 2nd place (In the first photo it is shown next to the first place entry).
The apple of our eye hat was has finally been worn.
Two of the childrens bibs offered on the Pro-Portional Designs Etsy shop were entered in the Ohio State Fair, one of them took third place. This item has also been featured on Tots N' Giggles, Cheezeburger.com, and Everything Burger.
Since theses are two items you have all already seen here on Small Fries here's another item made for the little one. Baby's First Sushi was started near the beginning of my pregnancy and then sat around not being finished until the last trimester.
The pattern used was "Nigiri Sushi Baby Wipe Cozy/Toy" by MK Carroll, a pattern I'd wanted for years but that was unavailable online for all that time. Finally I contacted the designer and she'd had no idea that the pattern link via Ravelry was a dud. For those of you interested in this pattern, have no fear, it is once again available for purchase online.

Sweet Baby Jayne Cobb
Roughly four years ago I knit my first hat. Despite the fact that I learned to knit when I was five, I spent the majority of the last decades knitting garter stitch scarves and being quite happy.
I'd knitted it for myself but it didn't appropriately fit over my locs so like a few other things I have knit for myself since then - it became the boys property.
The hat spawned an unsuspected amount of envy and requests for the hat still haven't stopped pouring in.
A few weeks ago Baby Nom received her very first Jayne Cobb hat. She's shown here with the first hat as well as the most recent commission for one.

My Husband the Hero (The Short Version)
Blogging and running a small internet business you are trying to get off the ground while parenting isn't always easy. Today I'm breaking my long silence not to post about my newest knit for my little girl (but stay tuned I hope to be posting soon) but to pay homage to my wonderful husband so many of you have come to know only as "the boy."
For months we have been dealing with the issue of nuisance canines and for months we have been begging our apartment complex to do something about the matter.
The other day one of our worries about these nuisances dogs became a reality. Shortly after walking outside with our daughter to get her some fresh air and share the beautiful day with her, my husband was attacked without provocation by one of our neighbors dogs.
After chowing down on my husband to the general point of its satisfaction the dog ran after the baby and myself. My husband, although down, was not out - ran between the dog and what it intended to be its next victims and kept us 100% safe. Sadly, his actions lead to further attack by the dog.
It wasn't long until an infection from pasteurella set in which was quickly followed by cellulitis. He spent two days in the hospital on antibiotics and spent a concerning amount of time with a temperature over 103.
Thankfully back home with us once again.

How It Began
As I mentioned once before, Jim's Pancakes was the inspiration for this blog. I love that he posts these amazing pancake creations he lovingly prepares for his little girl.
During the nesting stage of my pregnancy I was overwhelmed with the desire to make things for my impending offspring. After I'd made quite a few items I thought I may create a blog where I would post what is regularly being made for Baby Nom as well as other useful parenting info I come across.
The Small Fries Facebook fan page of the Om Nom Nom Studios Twitter are the best places to get links that I don't feel require an entire post as well as vlogs.
This is the sweater that kicked off the marathon of baby knitting.
The pattern is Kate Davies popular baby sweater, Owlet.
*I'd made a few baby items before but around the time I made this sweater I became obsessed with making quite a lot of items. Before, I was in no hurry and was nowhere near as feverish in my baby knitting.

Crafting After Birth
Contrary to what some of my in-laws apparently thought - there can be crafting after giving birth.
Remember, you're having a baby, not a toddler. It would be much harder to give your full attention to a sock weight sweater when you have a three year-old on the loose.
Here at my house, I know exactly where my infant is at all times, and anywhere she attempts to get she'll be getting there at the speed of an inch worm.
A couple of nights ago I finished my first knit since giving birth. I started the project on April 11th and finished April 18th.
It's a cowl made with 4ply yarn and I used size (US) 3 needles.
So to any of you who let people convince you there's no crafting until long after birth, I'm here to tell you, that's just not true.
Happy crafting!

Happy Birthday
Welcome to the new sister site to Pro-Portional Designs - SMALL FRIES!
Small Fries has been created for my first child which I gave birth to on March 30th, 2011. Happy birthday Quinlynn!!
Consider this site to be somewhat like Jim's Pancakes.
Before I gave birth to my little girl I was completely in love with her and began making sweaters for her. Here you will find projects related to children (frequently projects created for my own child) and any other "child-like" things of whimsy I choose to post about.
